Following Allah and Nafs Al Ammara.

Bissmillahi Rahmani Raheem.

( In the name of Allah, The Gracious, The Merciful)

I have often thought to myself, why should someone be ignorant of Allah and the Shariah? In my own heart I find there is everything there. Whatever Islam teaches goes according to our Fitra (ar. nature). Even if there are things which do not make sense in logical terms but since they are according to our nature  they are in perfect harmony with our inner selves. Take the example as Abdur Raheem Green said in one of his lectures: The massah ( wiping with wet hands) of socks is done on the top part of the feet and not the sole. According to logic we would say that it is the sole  that gets dirty by walking on the floor but Prophet Mohammad Sallala ho Alaihi wasslam wiped his sock on the top part.  We cannot say I cannot do this because it’s against my nature or I am not used to it or that it makes no sense. If  it’s a command from Allah, you would notice that the ONLY obstruction you may have is this:

What will people think if I do it?

This comes from our own selves.  Sometimes in fact most of the times it is the Shaytaan who whispers to us but there is an enemy within us that prevents us from doing things.

Nafs-al-Ammara.

in the quraan in surah yusuf, Allah says ( verse 53):

وَمَا أُبَرِّئُ نَفْسِي إِنَّ النَّفْسَ لأَمَّارَةٌ بِالسُّوءِ إِلاَّ مَا رَحِمَ رَبِّيَ إِنَّ رَبِّي غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

Nor do I absolve my own self (of blame): the (human) soul is certainly prone to evil, unless my Lord do bestow His Mercy: but surely my Lord is Oft- forgiving, Most Merciful.

If the prophet ( SAW) asks Allah refuge from his nafs al Ammara, who are we? Indeed we should realise  our blame in our going astray. Allah blames the astray people in the quraan in three ways, by Allah sealing their hearts ( because of their mischievous nature), by them following shaytaan and by them following their nafs.
I think today we are doomed by all three. We knowingly do not follow the true path and because of that the prophecy of Mohammad (SAW) has come true; that we will  be large in numbers but drifting, like the foam on the sea.
We are not content with our identity, our homeland, our religion and blindly following “civilised” nations. Disgusting! Islam is the only religion that is civilised, if we want to be educated and civilised we must turn to Islam alone.
May Allah guide us all, ameen.

  1. Aameen!

May Allah strengthen us to fight against evil inside and evil outside. Indeed, it’s evil inside that usually forbids us from following the right path.

  2. Aameen…I think its all in our hands to use our minds to select the right path. If we fear him we can do everything just for him…only following his way.
May Allah guide us to do right things in our life, Aameen.
